What they're saying about SFTM, Vol. 1:

I just finished watching this fine video from start to finish and Mike has done a superb job on it! ...my hat's off to Mike for including that 3rd part of the video and not stopping at just teaching the one tune (even though it's a great one and you'll certainly have to master a lot of technique to be able to play it cleanly at tempo.) Highly recommended! --Jim C.

Mine arrived today, and kudos to Mike for such a quality course! Thankyou and I will be impatiently waiting for the Speedy West course! --Gary M.

I want to thank Mike Neer for his wonderful 4 Wheel Drive course. If you want to learn this song his method and explanation on the video is excellent and the clarity is the best I've seen...this one I recommend highly. --Don S.

In addition to being a great (and impressive) song to learn, the various "licks" and tricks at the end are things that can be used in dozens of songs. Mike has out done himself in providing this material for us...and I for one am looking forward to the next one!! --Sonny J.

Your DVD is an inspiration, and I hope you go forward with more C6 (or other "jazzy" tunings), since you obviously know the theory, universal applicability of chords and lines, and you have great technique. .... Many thanks for fine work. -- Bob M.

Welcome to "Steelin' From The Masters, Vol. 1"--a unique new video series for non-pedal steel guitar. Volume 1 is an in-depth look at Buddy Emmons' classic "Four Wheel Drive." Buddy's performance is an encyclopedia of steel guitar techniques, and they are all presented here. This video is specifically for the 8 string C6 tuning; however, if you only play 6 strings, you will still have much to benefit from. Your purchase includes download access to the tab/notation in pdf and TablEdit formats, as well as a play-along track.

In this video lesson you will learn Four Wheel Drive, start to finish, section by section. At the conclusion there is a 30 minute lesson on utilizing the licks to create some of your own and tips on improving your technique with a major focus on the right hand picking techniques. The goal is to achieve articulation, speed and touch. This is 80 minutes of seriously challenging but fun steel guitar magic! To watch an excerpt, go to our YouTube page.

Steelin' From The Masters, Vol. 1: Four Wheel Drive is now available for Instant Access download only. You can now have the entire contents of the DVD and all Tab/Notation and TablEdit files, as well as backing track, downloaded right to your computer! No shipping, no waiting, no disc to deal with. The estimated download time is 20-30 minutes with a high-speed connection.

Steelin' From The Masters, Vol. 1 is now only $14.95!

A word from Mike:

Over the course of almost 90 years, the steel guitar has been played and recorded in a number of musical styles. There have been several players in its history who have pushed the steel guitar to new heights. Some of these players are: Sol Hoopii, Jerry Byrd, Ralph Mooney, Jules Ah See, Dick McIntire, Noel Boggs, Speedy West, Joaquin Murphey, Buddy Emmons, Vance Terry, Bob Dunn, Tom Brumley, David Lindley, Greg Leisz, just to name a few.

I have studied and enjoyed the playing of these masters and continue to study them--not merely to be able to duplicate what they play, but to unlock the many mysteries of the steel guitar, so that I can go forward and create my own unique music. There's a lesson in almost everything they played, from simplicity, to complexity, to pure beauty. I firmly believe that it is very difficult to move forward if you don't know what came before. I'm confident Steelin' From The Masters will be a valuable part of your journey to wherever your music takes you. I wish you success in your playing and just remember to enjoy yourself most of all.
